FairPrice Group’s Store of Tomorrow programme recognised with two awards at Asian Innovation Excellence Awards 2025

The company was recognised for transforming retail with AI-powered smart carts and integrated store solutions.

FairPrice Group won Singapore Customer-Centric Innovation of the Year - Retail and Singapore Technology Innovation of the Year - Retail in the Asian Innovation Excellence Awards 2025. These awards acknowledge the company’s advancement of retail experiences through technology and customer-focused initiatives, with the goal of making everyday life a little better for its customers.

The company’s Store of Tomorrow programme, developed in partnership with Google Cloud, set a new standard for Singapore’s grocery scene by integrating multiple AI solutions into a seamless store experience. Located at its flagship FairPrice Finest outlet in Punggol Digital District, the store operates as a testbed for innovations aiming to improve both customer experience and store operations.

Making it easy on the customer experience with AI-powered retail solutions

Central to the programme are smart carts fitted with scanners and displays, offering shoppers real-time aisle navigation and personalised product recommendations. These carts also feature a scan-and-go payment function that lets customers pay directly from their cart, effectively eliminating checkout queues and enhancing shopping convenience. In addition, a digital endless aisle enables customers to access an extended range of product options via the FairPrice Group app for purchase and home delivery.

The Store of Tomorrow vision is also brought to life through Gen-AI shopping assistants that provide recommendations to customers. The Digital Wine Sommelier reimagines the wine shopping experience by offering curated recommendations tailored to each shopper’s taste preferences, budget, and desired wine profile whilst the Wellness Genie at Unity Pharmacies offers personalised supplement recommendations tailored to individual health needs, along with price and promotion comparisons.

In the grocery aisles, digital price cards display real-time prices and promotions, making it easy for customers to find the best deals whilst also cutting down on paper waste. The Store of Tomorrow further makes the experience easy on the customer by automatically applying discounts at checkout for eligible shoppers such as seniors, the Pioneer and Merdeka generations, and CHAS Blue and Orange cardholders, eliminating the need to present physical cards.

Empowering staff for future-ready retail operations

FairPrice Group’s innovation extends to operational improvements as well. The programme deploys Vision AI technology to monitor shelf restocking and hazards, alerting staff in real time. Employees also benefit from a virtual assistant app that supports task management and work-related queries, exemplifying the company’s holistic approach to empowering both shoppers and staff.

The company employs a prototype, pilot, scale model to test new technologies at the Punggol outlet before rolling them out across its network of more than 570 stores, including Cheers and Kopitiam outlets.
