Universiti Malaya Medical Center clinches win at Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2026
Its Total Hospital Information System has already been commercialised since 2016 to other teaching hospitals in Malaysia.
Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) was lauded as the recipient of the Smart Technology - Healthcare Technology accolade at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2026 for the continued success of its Total Hospital Information System (THIS) in hospital management.
Developed in 2003, THIS is used by the medical centre to manage the hospital digitally for the purpose of tertiary care, medical teaching, and clinical research. The comprehensive system covers all hospital management aspects, as well as the care and treatment provided to the patients.
The system operates on a smart hospital framework, focusing on several dimensions: data & analytics, teaching & learning, patient, medical devices, hospital management, IT management, core IT systems, inter hospital, and its staff.
In recent years, UMMC has launched several smart hospital projects. These include a patient journey app, a health command centre, and a telehub that centralises telemedicine terminals for doctors, as well as supporting teleconsultation and remote health monitoring.
THIS has been commercialised since 2016 to other teaching hospitals in Malaysia and has currently become the number one local homegrown system used by teaching hospitals in the country.
