STANDARD CHARTERED GLOBAL BUSINESS SERVICES SDN BHD honoured at Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2026
It established its global Fusion Centre in Malaysia to connect teams for faster risk detection and coordinated action.
STANDARD CHARTERED GLOBAL BUSINESS SERVICES SDN BHD won the Cybersecurity - Financial Services category at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2026 for its Fusion Centre. The initiative addressed the growing complexity of cyber threats affecting financial institutions, where attackers increasingly use automation and generative artificial intelligence across digital banking, real-time payments, and open banking ecosystems.
The organisation introduced a cybersecurity operating model centred on three components: the Fusion Centre, a unified data strategy, and deception technology. This structure connects cybersecurity operations with fraud monitoring, intelligence analysis, physical security, and operational resilience within a coordinated environment. The integrated structure allows teams to analyse signals across domains and respond to threats with a shared understanding of risk.
Malaysia became the location of the organisation’s first global Fusion Centre, placing Kuala Lumpur at the centre of the model. The country hosts the organisation’s cybersecurity operations hub and provides a workforce experienced in cybersecurity, fraud analysis, and operational monitoring. More than 4,400 employees operate within the Global Business Services network in Malaysia, creating a base where cyber, fraud, and operational specialists work within the same environment to review signals and coordinate responses.
Data integration forms another component of the initiative. A shared data framework consolidates information from infrastructure scanning, malware repositories, and brand abuse monitoring into one intelligence view. Analysts examine structured datasets to identify unusual activity patterns, hostile infrastructure indicators, and early signals of compromise. Centralising these intelligence sources allows teams across cyber, fraud, and operational functions to analyse the same information at the same time.
Deception technology also forms part of the organisation’s cybersecurity strategy. The system introduces decoys and digital lures into the environment to attract malicious activity and expose attacker techniques. When attackers interact with these assets, analysts gain early visibility into tactics and objectives before production systems are targeted. The information supports earlier investigation and response activities within the organisation’s global cybersecurity operations.
