Coastal Sustainability Alliance debuts Singapore’s largest electric supply boat

This is seen to accelerate decarbonisation in maritime.

The Coastal Sustainability Alliance (CSA), an industry collaborative effort led by Kuok Maritime Group (KMG), has launched its first fully electric supply boat PXO-EXL-1 from shipyard to water, boosting efforts to decarbonise the maritime industry.

In a statement, CSA said it also launched keel laying of its first fully electric tug PXO-ACE-1 at PaxOcean Batam.

CSA said these are “amongst the first and largest local electric harbour craft designed for operations in Singapore’s waters.”

The PXO-EXL-1 boat can cruise at 8 knots in zero-emission operations whilst maintaining operational reliability. It was designed to accommodate a payload of 40 tonnes or 60 pallets, and can achieve up to 60% energy savings.

Meanwhile, the PXO-ACE-1 is the first fully electric tug to be assembled, delivered, and operated in Singapore. It is also future fuel-ready for zero-carbon fuels.

“The CSA will bring together international shipping agencies to explore offtaking arrangements and trial the electric supply boat in the second half of 2025, whilst the construction of the electric tug is slated to be completed in [the first quarter of] 2026,” the alliance said.
