Tata Communications empowers client with revenue increase, faster time-to-market through purpose-built cloud services

Tata CliQ has enhanced productivity and efficiency, and delivered a seamless user experience through the cloud services provided.

Tata CliQ is a flagship digital commerce initiative launched by retail company Tata Group’s business venture Tata Unistore, which offers a wide variety of products across fashion, luxury, electronics, and jewellery sourced directly from top brands and authorised resellers. With its commitment to authenticity and quality, it has emerged as one of the fastest-growing e-commerce brands in the country.

Despite this success, the brand has grappled with challenges relating to the reliability and scalability of its infrastructure whilst operating on a private cloud system. Tata CliQ has encountered persistent inefficiencies that have led to frequent downtime and outages, particularly during peak shopping seasons.

These disruptions have not only adversely affected user experience, but have also resulted in diminished customer loyalty, decreased conversion rates, and reputational damage. The limitations of the private cloud infrastructure, such as system overload and insufficient capacity to manage sudden spikes in traffic, have severely hindered Tata CliQ's operational effectiveness.

Recognising the critical need for a robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure, Tata CliQ has partnered with Tata Communications to leverage its expertise and Managed Public Cloud services for Amazon Web Services (AWS), aiming to make its infrastructure stronger and ready for sustained growth and success in India's highly competitive e-commerce market.

Tata Communications has facilitated Tata CliQ’s seamless migration to the AWS, providing end-to-end support from design consultation to migration and round-the-clock monitoring. It has also implemented a range of solutions to enhance the e-commerce brand’s infrastructure performance, scalability, and security. 

These solutions include multi-availability zone setups for better resiliency, multi-account and multi-VPC setups to limit security attack blast radius, and a comprehensive suite of security features to manage user access, permissions, and threat detection.

At the same time, the telecom company has pushed Tata CliQ to adopt DevOps methodologies, fostering a culture of agility and collaboration across development and operations teams.

The strategic partnership between the two companies have led to increased orders, better user experiences, reduced costs, and brand growth.

Tata CliQ no longer faces performance-related infrastructure issues. It is also able to perform well now amidst significant infrastructure cost reduction, YoY order volume growth, and personalised user experience based on data-driven analytics through data lakes. At the same time, it now enjoys an uptime of 99% and a faster time-to-market by 60%.

Tata Communications has successfully resolved the infrastructure issues faced by Tata CliQ and has enabled them to improve productivity and efficiency whilst delivering a seamless user experience. This remarkable accomplishment has caught the attention of the Asian Technology Excellence Awards, with the telecom company bringing home the India Technology Excellence Award in the Cloud - E-Commerce category.
