PNB brings home top honours at Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2025

Programme HIMAYA highlights the group’s commitment to maintaining robust cybersecurity measures and protecting investors and stakeholders.

Government-linked investment management company, Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), won the Cybersecurity - Financial Services category at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2025 for its commitment to pioneering advancements in cybersecurity and data protection through its Programme HIMAYA.

Programme HIMAYA has introduced several groundbreaking innovations that set it apart from the organisation’s conventional security programmes. It has developed and implemented cross-business frameworks and policies as part of this undertaking.

This includes streamlining cloud security standards and controls across all cloud models to ensure robust protection in an increasingly cloud-dependent environment. It also includes data protection managed by third parties, which establishes the foundation for its third-party risk management initiative.

Additionally, the Data Protection Framework and Privacy by Design Framework have been established to integrate data privacy and privacy by design into everyday business operations and technology implementations, a forward-thinking approach that enhances overall data security.

Through Programme HIMAYA, PNB has made significant strides in enhancing cybersecurity. It has successfully introduced company-wide Key Performance Indicators to track data breach incidents across all teams, not only heightening awareness but also fostering a culture of accountability and proactive management of data security risks.

It has also incorporated mandatory and enhanced security checks within the procurement process. Now, every request for new systems must include a comprehensive security assessment, which is integrated into the procurement process and approvals.

Lastly, the company has initiated regular assessment activities that encompass a variety of security evaluations, helping the company identify and mitigate vulnerabilities across different platforms, enhancing its overall security posture.

“The impact of these achievements extends beyond our organisation. By setting new standards in cybersecurity and data protection, we have shared and influenced industry practices and inspired other organisations to adopt similar measures to uplift their security posture,” PNB said.

It has successfully completed its Phase 1 in 2024, laying out a strong foundation for future advancements and demonstrating the reasons that make it deserving of the title. “We have not only met but exceeded our objectives, setting new benchmarks in the industry and paving the way for a more secure digital future for our organisation and unitholders,” the company added.
