India’s installed power capacity hits 5.05 Lakh MW
Non-fossil fuel sources dominated the total capacity.
The total installed energy generation capacity of India has reached 505,023 megawatts (MW) as of the end of October, according to the latest government data.
According to the Ministry of Power, the total capacity comprises 245,600 MW of fossil-fuel sources and 259,423 MW from non-fossil fuel sources.
Broken down, coal led the fossil fuel sources, with 218,258 MW. It was followed by gas (20,132 MW, lignite (6,620 MW), and diesel (589 MW).
For non-fossil fuel sources, renewables accounted for 250,643 MW, of which 129,924 MW are from solar, 53,600 MW from wind, and 50,348 MW from hydro, to name a few. India also has 8,780 MW of nuclear power.
