JioStar recognised at Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards 2026 for next-generation sports platforms
The organisation built a sports content automation platform and an AI system generating real-time cricket highlights.
JioStar has been recognised at the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards 2026, Singapore, winning in the categories of Digital Content Platform - India and Sports Broadcasting - India for its in-house developed platforms — SportsCentral and the Automated AI Cricket Highlights system, respectively. The organisation built an in-house sports content automation platform and an AI system generating real-time cricket highlights.
The recognition highlights JioStar’s continued investment in building scalable, technology-led solutions that are transforming live sports content operations and broadcasting workflows.
At the centre of the win is SportsCentral, JioStar’s unified platform designed to streamline the entire sports content lifecycle into a single automated ecosystem. The platform consolidates live event scheduling, feed ingestion and encoding, metadata generation, publishing, and archival workflows, replacing fragmented systems with a unified operational framework.
Developed in-house in close collaboration with the Sports Content & Operations team, SportsCentral currently powers live sporting events across JioStar’s Sports Network, viz. Star Sports (TV) and JioHotstar (Streaming). The platform is engineered to support large-scale operations efficiently whilst maintaining speed, accuracy and consistency across workflows.
Each live match generates nearly 200 video-on-demand assets, scaling to over 14,800 assets across a 74-match cricket season. SportsCentral also supports outputs across 12 languages, including UHD workflows, without requiring separate parallel operations.
One of the platform’s key differentiators is its event-driven orchestration layer, which automatically triggers ingest workflows based on live schedules and dynamically applies encoding profiles for multi-format and multi-language distribution. Its metadata engine standardises file naming, maps assets across multiple feeds, and ensures end-to-end traceability across the content pipeline.
JioStar was also recognised for its Automated AI Cricket Highlights platform, an in-house developed real-time content intelligence system that generates ready-to-publish cricket highlight clips.
The platform identifies key match moments, including wickets, deliveries, and milestones, whilst analysing gameplay context to determine accurate clip boundaries. Unlike traditional timestamp-based clipping, the system ensures highlights reflect the natural sequencing and flow of the match.
Using a combination of visual transition detection, audio signal processing, and contextual match data, the platform maintains editorial and technical quality whilst significantly reducing manual effort. Editors continue to remain part of the process for final validation and quality checks.
By automating highlight generation at scale, the system enables faster publishing cycles and supports real-time distribution across both digital and broadcast platforms.
The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards recognise pioneers across the broadcasting industry who are driving innovation through technology, digitalisation and engineering excellence. The awards celebrate projects and platforms shaping the future of broadcasting across the Asia-Pacific region.
The recognition further reinforces JioStar’s focus on building future-ready technology solutions that enhance operational excellence and elevate sports viewing experiences for audiences at scale.
