Central Water Reclamation Sdn. Bhd. honoured for sustainable water solutions at Malaysia National Business Awards 2026

Developed reclaimed water projects that reduce reliance on potable water whilst strengthening long-term supply.

Central Water Reclamation Sdn. Bhd. received an accolade in the Initiative Award - Utilities category at the Malaysia National Business Awards 2026 for its reclaimed water initiatives supporting industrial operations and digital infrastructure. The initiative focused on supplying alternative water sources for industries and hyperscale data centres across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya, reducing dependence on treated drinking water for non-potable applications.

Rising demand for industrial water and the expansion of digital infrastructure prompted the development of reclaimed water systems to support these sectors. Central Water Reclamation Sdn. Bhd. implemented an integrated supply chain that converts treated effluent from Indah Water Konsortium’s sewerage treatment plants into reclaimed water suitable for industrial processes and data centre cooling. Advanced treatment technologies produce high-grade non-potable water that can be used by facilities requiring a consistent water supply, particularly manufacturing operations and hyperscale data centres.

Several infrastructure projects were introduced to supply reclaimed water to industrial areas and digital infrastructure developments. The Setia Alam Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) supplies reclaimed water to industrial users, primarily supporting glove manufacturing operations. Build-Operate-Transfer projects in Cyberjaya and Sungai Besi expanded reclaimed water supply for industrial and digital applications. Operations in Cyberjaya support data centres and industrial users, whilst the Sungai Besi project aligns with the Zero Discharge Policy.

A reclaimed water supply project in Cyberjaya supports the Amazon Web Services hyperscale data centre. The system provides reclaimed water for large-scale cooling operations, allowing the facility to reduce the use of potable water in daily operations. The project represents a large-scale application of reclaimed water for digital infrastructure in Malaysia.

Implementation involved collaboration between Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn. Bhd., Indah Water Konsortium Sdn. Bhd., Central Water Reclamation Sdn. Bhd., and Amazon Web Services. Agreements formalised between these organisations established a framework for reclaimed water supply and infrastructure development. These projects form part of broader efforts to expand reclaimed water use across industrial parks and critical infrastructure sites in Malaysia.
