India’s first autonomous shipping software secures landmark certification
IRS validated the new USV navigation software enabling unmanned operations with AI controls.
India certifies its first domestically developed autonomous navigation software for unmanned surface vessels, according to the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
The software enables USVs to operate without onboard crews, using algorithms for route planning, collision avoidance, and situational awareness.
The IRS confirmed that the software meets operational and safety standards for use in Indian waters.
According to a press statement from the IRS, “The certification follows our established procedures for evaluating software and technology intended for use in maritime vessels.”
The developers said in a press release that field trials are currently underway to integrate the software with multiple USV platforms.
