Novo Nordisk Pharma Malaysia wins Malaysia Management Excellence Awards 2025 for women empowerment event
The event stands as a testament to the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion within the healthcare landscape.
Pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk Pharma Malaysia received the Diversity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year - Pharmaceuticals category win at the prestigious Malaysia Management Excellence Awards 2025 for the successful organisation of an event designed to challenge and change societal attitudes towards obesity through the empowerment of women.
The transformative event, named "Bold and Unbound: Women Leading the Charge in Reshaping Societal Perceptions of Obesity," set out to achieve three strategic objectives: raising awareness about societal perceptions of obesity, mobilising healthcare professionals against stigma, and empowering women as pivotal voices of change.
Held to coincide with International Women's Day and World Obesity Day, it brought together influential female leaders and healthcare professionals committed to fighting obesity stigma and promoting diverse health narratives.
Esteemed speakers include the Ministry of Health (MOH) Disease Control Division Director Dr Noraryana Binti Hassan, Prof Dr Rohana binti Abdul Ghani, President of the Malaysian Obesity Society (MYOS) and Senior Consultant Endocrinologist, and MOH Endocrinology Subspecialty Service Head Dr Nurain binti Mohd Noor, Head of the Endocrinology Subspecialty Service of the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) and President of the Malaysian Endocrine and Metabolic Society (MEMS). Their diverse insights have underscored the multidimensional impact of this initiative, engaging attendees deeply in public health discussions.
It has been revealed during the event that the upcoming Malaysia Plan highlights a commitment from the Health Minister to allocate resources specifically for combating obesity, which aligns seamlessly with Novo Nordisk's ongoing efforts. This is expected to significantly elevate the response to the disease burden of obesity, creating a powerful partnership aimed at fostering healthier communities.
This event is part of a long-term commitment to sustainable frameworks that promote diversity and inclusion in healthcare. According to Novo Nordisk, incorporating feedback from both the healthcare community and individuals impacted by obesity is going to allow future events to evolve, addressing ongoing challenges and opportunities in reshaping societal perceptions surrounding obesity stigma.
