OCBC widens digital wealth access
Mobile banking is bringing investment services to more Indonesians.
PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk is using digital banking to broaden access to wealth management in Indonesia, shifting a service once aimed mainly at high-net-worth individuals towards a wider customer base.
Wealth management was traditionally built around face-to-face branch visits and lengthy discussions with relationship managers, Johannes Husin, director at PT Bank, told Asian Banking & Finance.
Customers typically had to visit branches to invest, review portfolios, or receive financial advice.
Digitalisation has made wealth management more accessible to younger and tech-savvy customers, Husin said, citing Indonesia Central Securities Depository (KSEI) data showing that 54% of capital market investors were under 30 as of December 2025.
"This phenomenon shows that wealth management is shifting from an exclusive service into a financial solution accessible to more customer segments," he said in an emailed reply to questions.
Customers can now complete onboarding, risk profiling, market monitoring, investment transactions, and portfolio reviews through OCBC's mobile banking platform.
Husin said digitalisation has also lowered barriers that once limited wealth management to affluent clients by reducing reliance on manual processes and face-to-face consultations.
OCBC said the share of wealth transactions conducted through digital channels rose to 44% in 2025 from 30% a year earlier.
Bond transaction volume on its digital platform increased 89% year on year, whilst the number of bond transactions rose 50%.
The bank also reported an 8% year-on-year increase in individual active internet banking and mobile banking users in the first quarter, whilst active users of OCBC Business Mobile rose 20%.
OCBC's wealth management assets under management grew at a compound annual growth rate of 29% from 2022 to 2025, reaching more than $6.7b (IDR120t) by the end of 2025.
Husin said the bank aims to make wealth management increasingly digital, personalised, and accessible across customer segments.
"The use of data helps us serve not just affluent customers, but all segments," he added.
