Smart grid corporate funding up 40% in 9M

Venture capital funding also increased in the same period.

Corporate funding for smart grid companies reached $2.8b in 68 deals in the first nine months of the year, according to latest data from Mercom Capital Group.

In its analysis, Mercom said this was 40% higher from $2b in 53 deals in the same period last year.

Venture capital (VC) funding for smart grid companies also increased 14% to reach $1.6b across 55 deals.

Smart Charging companies received the most VC funding at $1.1b. Other top-funded categories included Grid Optimization, Distributed Generation and Integration companies, Data Analytics, and Demand Response companies.

Announced debt and public market financing for smart grid technology companies totalled $1.25b in 13 deals, a 120% surge from last year.

A total of eight smart grid M&A transactions were announced in 9M, compared to seven a year ago.
