Vietnam hits 95.2% health insurance coverage
The rate beat the five year target by 0.16 percentage points.
Vietnam's national health insurance scheme covered 95.2% of the population by the end of 2025, meeting its five-year target ahead of schedule, according to Vietnam Social Security.
The agency announced on 4 February that the coverage rate exceeded the target set under the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress by 0.16 percentage points.
It also fulfilled the goal of Resolution No. 42-NQ/TW, which called for health insurance coverage of more than 95% of the population by 2030, five years earlier than planned.
Vietnam Social Security said the achievement marks the highest health insurance coverage rate recorded in the country and has been maintained despite natural disasters, climate change and difficult socio-economic conditions in several regions.
In 2025, the country's healthcare system recorded an estimated 195.5 million medical visits covered by health insurance.
Total claims submitted for payment reached approximately $6.1b (VNĐ161.628t), highlighting the Health Insurance Fund's role in meeting rising demand for healthcare services.
Vietnam Social Security said future health insurance policies will shift from expanding coverage to improving the quality, sustainability and effectiveness of the system, in line with the direction set by the 14th Party Congress.
