Nepal insurance activity surges in September as premiums double

Gross premium collection jumped to $0.31b.

Nepal’s insurance industry saw a sharp rise in activity in September 2025, with both life and non-life segments expanding compared to August, according to data from the Insurance Board.

Life insurance policies issued nearly doubled to 1.20 million from 649,000, whilst micro life policies rose to 816,000 from 473,000.

Non-life issuances also climbed to 490,000 from 244,000, and micro non-life policies increased to 60,000 from 29,000.

Gross premium collection jumped to $0.31b (NPR44.28b) in September from $0.17b (NPR24.42b) in August.

Life premiums reached $0.26b (NPR35.99b), whilst non-life premiums grew to $0.06b (NPR8.29b). First premiums rose to $0.05b (NPR7.27b) from $0.03b (NPR3.63b), and renewal premiums increased to $0.20b (NPR28.72b) from $0.12b (NPR16.39b).

Insurance coverage improved slightly, with total life coverage rising to 49.19% from 49.08%.
