Hong Kong’s Mox Bank appoints Barbaros Uygun as new CEO

Uygun previously served as CEO of ING Bank Austria.

Hong Kong’s Mox Bank has appointed Barbaros Uygun as its CEO and executive director of the board beginning 27 September.

Uygun previously served as the CEO of ING Bank Austria, where he reportedly transformed the bank from one that was predominantly focused on savings into a full-service digital bank.

He brings with him over 24 years of banking experience spanning business management and strategy, marketing, product development, and digital transformation.

Prior to that, Uygun held various leadership positions in ING Bank and Garanti Bank BBVA.

Meanwhile, Deniz Güven, after three years in the role, will step down as CEO of the digital-only bank and its executive director of the board to pursue a new business venture. He will still serve as a special advisor to Standard Chartered on a number of important digital initiatives.
