Security Bank showcases technology excellence through its Enterprise Operational Data Platform

With this initiative, the bank strives to lead the industry into a new era of customer-centricity and efficient banking.

In the ever-evolving banking sector, technology advancements and increasing customer expectations compel financial institutions to leverage data to provide customer-focussed experiences, advanced product capabilities, operational efficiencies, and comply with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.

Security Bank, a leading universal bank in the Philippines, is demonstrating its commitment to digital transformation and innovation with the launch of the Enterprise Operational Data Platform (ODP).

With the Enterprise ODP, Security Bank is transforming its approach to delivering exceptional customer service. The platform entails near real-time information visibility, driving contextual hyper-personalisation and enhanced data management across digital channels and services using a modern data stack that includes data streaming, stream processing, change data capture (CDC), and a streaming data mesh.

CDC technology is crucial to the bank's strategic data infrastructure, as it allows seamless data integration and significantly reduces data traffic from legacy systems by synchronising real-time changes from systems of record (SoRs) to its private cloud. Additionally, the use of a streaming data mesh architecture enhances the agility and scalability of the bank’s data ecosystem.

This capability enables teams to develop domain-specific data applications and services, fostering innovation and democratising data access throughout the organisation whilst ensuring the security of customer data. It also allows quick adaptation to evolving business needs.

"ODP is a revolutionary event streaming architecture that helps the bank quickly and easily integrate real-time data, stream analytics, and more. It enables data to be accessed, transferred, and used in various ways, such as creating near-real-time data visualisation, truly performant systems, and agile and real-time contextual personalisation. ODP’s architecture is based on four core principles: scalability, resilience, elasticity, and autonomy," said Lucose Eralil, EVP and Chief Operating Officer.

Security Bank pointed out that the integration of advanced stream processing technologies further empowers them to conduct real-time data transformation for various use cases, boosting operational efficiencies and supporting business demands across diverse financial services and products.

Although the Enterprise ODP programme currently supports only digital channel applications, the bank plans to utilise it for real-time data analytics. This ambitious plan includes incorporating machine learning and artificial intelligence to uncover deeper insights and predictive capabilities.

Furthermore, strategic collaborations with industry partners both locally and globally are essential in accelerating the bank’s digital transformation. These partnerships enable Security Bank to gain access to state-of-the-art technologies, best practices, and specialised knowledge that enhance its competencies, foster innovation, and promote sustainable growth.

The bank’s dedication to technological innovation and cooperative efforts has transformed banking operations. The bank's achievements have been recognised, as evidenced by winning the Philippines Technology Excellence Award 2024 in the Enterprise Software - Banking category.

“With our commitment to innovation, customer-centricity, and technology excellence, Security Bank is poised to lead the industry into a new era of banking excellence, where operational efficiency and real-time analytics converge to drive sustainable growth and differentiation,” said Lucose Eralil.

Now in its fourth edition, the Asian Technology Excellence Awards is the region’s premier program celebrating leading technological innovators and solutions that are reshaping industries and spearheading digital transformation.
