Sandisk clinches Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2025 for AI-powered solutions
The solutions have streamlined operations and reduced costs in its manufacturing processes.
Technology company Sandisk took home two major titles at the coveted Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2025 for its groundbreaking integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in its projects that have addressed critical gaps in conventional energy management systems and introduced innovative ways to enhance productivity, streamline operations, and reduce costs in its manufacturing.
Amongst its breakthrough solutions include Vision AIoT, which employs human detection technology through AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) to ensure lighting is only activated when a human is present and interacting with a machine. Optimised based on human behaviour, the system avoids turning lights on unnecessarily when a person merely passes by, focussing instead on active interaction zones.
By distinguishing between human and robotic movement, the system prevents false activations and optimises energy use. Additionally, the system’s behavioural optimisation tailors lighting control to real-world human interactions, a feature rarely seen in conventional solutions.
Its modular design and behaviour-driven algorithms enable seamless integration into diverse production environments, with the flexibility to adapt quickly to changing operational needs.
Internally, Vision AIoT has reduced operating costs, enhanced energy efficiency, and demonstrated Sandisk’s commitment to sustainability. Externally, the project serves as a model for other production facilities aiming to achieve similar goals.
“The system’s ability to tailor lighting control to human behaviour patterns contributes to increased energy efficiency and improved operational precision. The smart management of lighting usage also prolongs the lifespan of the lights, reduces maintenance needs, and avoids costly replacements, resulting in significant savings and more sustainable operations,” the company said.
Vision AIoT project is part of its broader Vision AI portfolio, which focusses on developing intelligent vision solutions based on existing CCTV infrastructure.
Another solution that Sandisk also takes pride in is its multimodal generative AI solution PrimeGPT which revolutionises the manufacturing industry by boosting productivity, streamlining operations, and cutting costs.
PrimeGPT is able to extract data from unstructured formats like PDFs, emails, and presentations, and offers a conversational interface for hands-free interactions, providing seamless access to critical information in the process.
It also aims to become an Agentic AI, autonomously analysing data, setting goals, and taking actions with minimal human intervention. This reduces repetitive tasks for engineers and boosts productivity. Its Vision Large Language Model processes real-time visual inputs, enabling quality control, equipment monitoring, and site inspections.
At the same time, PrimeGPT deployment flexibility includes an on-premises model for offline operations, ensuring data security and confidentiality, and a cloud-based model for real-time updates and broader functionality. It also includes an artistic model enabling AI-generated images to foster creativity and innovation in design and brainstorming processes.
“PrimeGPT’s evolution aims to become the ultimate AI agent for manufacturing, capable of autonomous problem-solving, human-like interactions, and supporting innovation. PrimeGPT represents the future of manufacturing, blending AI capabilities with human expertise to achieve unprecedented levels of efficiency and productivity,” Sandisk said.
Since the model was developed internally, it has benefitted from a closed-loop system that repurposes internal information for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
Sandisk brought home the win in the AI - Electronic Manufacturing category for PrimeGPT and in the Manufacturing Technology - Electronic Manufacturing category for Vision AIoT in the prestigious awards programme.
