PT Asian Bulk Logistics earns recognition at Asian Management Excellence Awards 2026
The company responded to safety and data challenges by deploying a unified AI-based solution across its vessels and terminals.
PT Asian Bulk Logistics received the Indonesia Innovator of the Year - Logistics award at the Asian Management Excellence Awards 2026, recognising its development of ABL Argus, an integrated AI-based safety and reporting system implemented across its maritime and terminal operations in Indonesia. The recognition acknowledged how the company addressed operator safety risks, data fragmentation, and limitations in manual supervision by introducing a centralised digital ecosystem that enabled continuous monitoring and proactive intervention.
An internal operational review conducted by PT Asian Bulk Logistics in the first quarter of 2024 identified several recurring challenges affecting safety management. Operator fatigue emerged as a concern due to extended working hours in crane and vessel operations, whilst manual supervision methods were unable to provide continuous oversight across multiple sites. Safety data was also distributed across disconnected systems, which restricted the ability to analyse trends or conduct structured root cause analysis. These findings prompted the company to prioritise a system that could combine monitoring, reporting, and analytics within a single framework.
The ABL Argus platform combined several technical elements within operational workflows. At the monitoring level, computer vision systems were deployed to observe crane operations and deck activity, with Crane AI analysing signs of operator fatigue and Captain’s Eye identifying unsafe conduct and lapses in personal protective equipment compliance as they occurred. Alerts were triggered during live operations, which gave supervisors the opportunity to act before conditions deteriorated. Operational data from these systems, along with field reports and existing records, flowed into a Unified AI Datalake that functioned as the central data environment for analysis and reporting. Alongside this infrastructure, generative AI tools were used to digitise technical manuals and operating procedures.
Following deployment across eight vessels, PT Asian Bulk Logistics recorded quantifiable improvements in safety and efficiency. During the early implementation phase, 152 safety-related alerts were identified. In the subsequent monitoring period, alerts declined to 102, representing a 32.9% improvement in safety compliance and crew behaviour. Automation within the AI Datalake reduced the manual workload for safety evaluation and data processing from approximately nineteen to twenty man-days per month to between two and four man-days. The generative AI application also reduced technical research workloads by more than 95%, replacing extended manual reviews with immediate responses based on internal documentation.
