PrimeWater Infrastructure Corporation clinches two wins at the Asian Technology Excellence Awards

Its technologies revolutionised leak detection and repair processes for PrimeWater.

Water utility company PrimeWater Infrastructure Corporation bagged the Philippines Technology Excellence Award for Software - Utilities and the Philippines Technology Excellence Award for Web Services - Utilities category wins at the Asian Technology Excellence Awards for the successful implementation of its Asset Registry and Performance Monitoring Software and its PrimeWater Leak Tagging App, respectively.

The Asset Registry and Performance Monitoring Software is responsible for managing the assets in a pipeline network by maintaining a list of various assets such as blow-off pipes, booster pumps, fire hydrants, pressure points, pumping stations, reservoirs, stub outs, treatment plants, valves, and wells. It keeps track of important information like physical details, procurement data, installation materials, equipment used, and the assigned team.

The Asset Registry module serves as a centralised database, containing detailed information about all assets in the pipeline network, whilst the Performance Monitoring module is responsible for tracking the activities and operational condition of each asset listed in the registry.

The system offers numerous benefits to organisations operating pipeline networks. It ensures improved service delivery by providing a comprehensive understanding of asset conditions and potential risks. This information allows for the proper configuration of pipeline network components, ensuring the efficient distribution of treated water.

Moreover, the system supports demand forecasting, planning, and budgeting by providing reliable asset information. It minimises unplanned maintenance costs by assessing asset conditions and historical activity data. The system also contributes to network sustainability goals by enabling condition monitoring and optimal maintenance scheduling.

To further enhance data exploration and visualisation, the Asset Registry and Performance Monitoring Software integrates with Google Earth, which allows for the import of registered assets as waypoints with embedded links, creating an interactive interface. Users can visualise the pipeline network in a geospatial context, making it easier to identify asset locations and patterns.

Meanwhile, the PrimeWater Leak Tagging App is a cloud-based application that allows personnel to record different types of leaks and ultimately identify the real cause of these leaks. The app has significantly enhanced the efficiency and accuracy of leak identification, awarding, and monitoring, leading to substantial reductions in water losses due to leakages and broken meters or what is referred to as non-revenue water (NRW), which means recovered volume translates to more available water for customers to use.

The app's ability to accurately document leak repairs with detailed information and precise locations has provided PrimeWater with a valuable resource for future reference. The collected data also enabled PrimeWater to make informed decisions regarding resource allocation, manpower distribution, and targeted efforts to further reduce NRW.

The initiative leads to efficient asset inventory and enables better asset management making overall operations more efficient.

Over a year after the Leak Tagging App was developed in 2022, the company was able to repair at least 42,000 leaks which added 6.77 million litres per day of recovered volume supplying to more than 50,000 people in the areas where it was initially implemented. The project is currently progressing to be used in all its areas of operations.
