PLN Named Best Utility Company in Southeast Asia by Fortune 500
The company was recognised for its digital transformation and commitment to service excellence.
PT PLN (Persero) has emerged as the top company on the Fortune 500 list for the Utilities: Gas and Electric sector in Southeast Asia. Thanks to end-to-end digital transformation, PLN is now recognised globally as a leading national company.
PLN has been ranked as the best utility company amongst 25 others, securing the sixth position. Malaysia's Tenaga Nasional is ranked 21st, followed by the Philippines' Manila Electric at 34th, and Singapore's Singapore Power and Sembcorp Industries at 63rd and 68th, respectively. This makes PLN the top company in this sector on the Southeast Asia Fortune 500 list.
President Director of PLN Darmawan Prasodjo emphasised that as a state-owned enterprise, PLN is committed to providing the best service to the public. The company's business transformation has made PLN more agile in expanding its operations, leading to its recognition as the leading utility company in Southeast Asia.
"In the electricity sector, PLN not only delivers excellent service but also continues to fulfil its mandate to electrify remote areas. This achievement is not just for PLN, but for the reputation of Indonesia," said Darmawan.
PLN recorded revenue of US$32.01b and a profit of US$1.44b. The company also reported assets worth US$108.51b and employs a total of 51,245 people.
"This positive achievement aligns with PLN's vision to become a Top 500 Global Company. We are grateful for the trust and support from the public and the government, which have strengthened PLN's position to maintain national energy independence and resilience," Darmawan stated.
Clay Chandler, Executive Editor of Fortune, Asia, mentioned that Fortune's focus on this region highlights Southeast Asia's growing importance in the global economy. He noted that the Southeast Asia 500 list is dominated by the top ten large companies with extensive international operations.
The Fortune Southeast Asia 500 for 2024 shows that Indonesia leads with 110 companies, followed by Thailand with 107. Malaysia has 89 companies on the list, surpassing Singapore with 84. Meanwhile, Vietnam has 70 companies, the Philippines 38, and Cambodia two.
