Looking into J&T Express’ activities amidst e-commerce boom

The company has launched initiatives to retain talent and forged a strong partnership with a local homeware brand.

With the e-commerce boom in recent years, logistics firm J&T Express has been seeing fierce competition. With other companies rolling out initiatives of their own, the company has to ensure that it stays ahead of the competition. This has led J&T Express to highlight the heart of its business: the people.

The company rolled out new initiatives to attract, nurture, and retain a diverse pool of employees, as well as to build a strong pipeline.

J&T Express Singapore has been actively involved in community outreach efforts to expand beyond the usual candidate pools. It has been supporting the Yellow Ribbon Singapore (YRSG) initiative by providing stable, full-time employment opportunities since August 2021.

They have been working with these employees to help them rebuild their lives and lower the recidivism rate by providing them with long-term career development and upskilling opportunities.

The partnership with YRSG has pushed J&T Express to embrace flexible work arrangements, which in turn has enabled the company to retain more talent in the long run.

At the same time, J&T Express Singapore worked with the Project GEM @ East Coast Initiative, which aims to provide the elderly with sustainable employment through their silver years. Acknowledging the need to bridge the digital divide for senior employees who are less tech-savvy, the company provides tech skills training and offers to walk them through the use of various mobile apps for internal communications and HR management purposes.

Through its enhanced outreach program targeting individuals of all backgrounds and demographics, J&T Express has been able to fill vacant positions and provide at-risk groups with long-term employment and career development opportunities.

It has been seen that an inclusive and diverse workplace contributes to a positive culture at the company – with employees being more engaged and productive, cultivating stronger camaraderie, and resonating more with the company’s mission, vision, and core values.

Meanwhile, the e-commerce boom has also led to a strong partnership between J&T Express and local homeware brand HOUZE which started in 2020. The latter reimagined home storage and simplified everyday living by creating versatile and functional products without compromising aesthetics.

Despite having opened physical outlets, its customers still preferred the convenience of having orders delivered directly to their doorstep. This saw a surge in HOUZE’s online orders three-fold during the pandemic's peak.

Before engaging J&T Express as a logistics provider, HOUZE was experiencing delivery issues such as 20% of their shipped parcels facing breakages during transport and an extended delivery lead time. To improve their service, HOUZE decided to appoint J&T Express as their logistics provider. The partnership quickly saw an astounding improvement in the parcel breakage rate and fewer complaints about damaged products.

With HOUZE’s Singapore operations thriving, the business is looking to expand into international markets where they can extend their partnership with J&T Express and leverage the latter’s global network in these regions to support their growth.

J&T Express’ stellar performance over the past two years, as well as its initiative to drive growth in an uncertain time, has been lauded by the Asian Experience Awards. The company clinched both the Singapore Employee Experience of the Year - Logistics and the Singapore Partner Experience of the Year - Logistics awards.

The prestigious awards programme aims to highlight the ingenious initiatives of creative companies delivering meaningful brand experiences to their stakeholders.
