Johnson Matthey (JM) Greater China president clinches accolade at Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025
His strategic initiatives, including major investments in low-carbon solutions and hydrogen technology, have positioned JM as a leader in the industry.
Dr Mark Su, President of Johnson Matthey Greater China, bagged the China Executive of the Year - Manufacturing category win at the coveted Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025 for his success in demonstrating exceptional leadership, which has significantly propelled the company's growth and innovation.
This remarkable asset is evident in his direction for the company’s establishment of a cohesive culture of shared purpose and clear communication, streamlining the company’s operations, breaking down silos, and fostering a more agile organisation. These indicators have resulted in remarkable sustainable business growth.
Dr Su leverages over 30 years of experience in functional materials, specialty chemicals, electronic contract manufacturing, and sustainable energy solutions to drive the company's growth in low-carbon initiatives and hydrogen technologies. Dr Su has lived, studied, and worked in USA, UK, Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and mainland China. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Oxford and has held various senior leadership and board director roles across prominent companies, including Royal DSM, Covestro, Imerys, Akzo Nobel, Elementis, and Hi-P International, focussing on innovation and operational excellence.
Armed with a strong management team, his leadership achieved significant improvements in its employee engagement, customer satisfaction scores and remarkable sustainable business growth in a highly contested market and under challenging economic and geopolitical conditions.
Under Dr Su’s stewardship, JM China is providing technology solutions to help China reduce automotive emissions, transform energy systems, and decarbonise chemical production. Over the past 3 decades, JM has delivered over 150m units of catalytic converters in China. Several landmark investments have been made in China, including a low-emission precious metal refinery in Jiangsu and a hydrogen fuel-cell facility in Shanghai, that will help China achieve the carbon neutrality by 2060.
Within the company, Dr Su is responsible for JM Group’s strategic vision and direction, business profitability and market development, stakeholder engagement, cultivation of an authentic and positive culture, as well as the company’s commitment to environmental protection, social responsibility, and corporate governance.
