BIBD wins Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025 for health & wellness programme

Over 33 employees and strategic partners were empowered to act as trained first responders.

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) has been recognised at the prestigious Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025 for its transformative BIBD Wellness Ambassadors initiative, which has set a new benchmark for how financial institutions can actively promote health and wellness.

Launched in 2022, the BIBD Wellness Ambassadors initiative empowers over 30 BIBD employees and strategic partners to serve as first responders in emergencies. Their comprehensive training equips them to manage physical injuries and provide psychological support, making the programme a unique blend of physical and mental health advocacy.

Such a dual-focus approach is unparalleled in Brunei, making BIBD not just a banking leader but also an innovator in the wellness space.

The bank’s contribution to such activities also reflects its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Brunei Vision 2035.

The impact of the Wellness Ambassadors initiative is evident in its measurable outcomes. In 2023, the Wellness Ambassadors organised health screenings for over 1,000 employees, fostering a culture of preventative care. The initiative has also launched mental health campaigns, creating safe spaces for employees to seek psychological support. Externally, the Wellness Ambassadors have become a valuable asset to the community, providing free health checks during national events in support of the government’s national health  goals.

As the only financial institution in Brunei to take such a proactive role, BIBD’s initiative has garnered widespread recognition for its community contributions. The Wellness Ambassadors have played pivotal roles in national events by providing critical aid and support.

“The programme’s success illustrates the potential of balancing organisational objectives with wellness priorities. By embedding health advocacy into its corporate culture, BIBD has not only fostered a healthy work environment, but [has] also enhanced operational resilience and strengthened its reputation as an employer of choice,” the company said.

As the programme evolves, BIBD remains committed to expanding its reach, integrating innovative wellness technologies, and inspiring others to follow its lead.

BIBD took home the Brunei Health and Wellness Initiative of the Year - Banking for the milestones achieved by its Wellness Ambassadors.
