Axiata Group Berhad honoured for cybersecurity facility, AI-powered Threat Attribution platform

The company’s cybersecurity facility ACFC and HELIOS platform highlight its efforts in cybersecurity innovation and safeguarding digital ecosystems.

Axiata Group Berhad was recognised with two accolades for its innovations in advancing cybersecurity resilience. The company’s Axiata Cyber Fusion Center (ACFC) secured the Initiative Award - Telecommunications at the Malaysia National Business Awards 2025 for its breakthroughs in cybersecurity, whilst its development of HELIOS earned the Cybersecurity - Telecommunications award at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2025, reinforcing Axiata’s leadership in cybersecurity innovation.

In August 2022, Axiata established the ACFC, one of Malaysia’s premier cybersecurity facilities. The centre integrates advanced technologies, collaborative processes, and expert personnel to provide comprehensive cyber defence capabilities.

In August 2024, the company introduced its patent-pending cyber platform HELIOS (Heuristic Engine for Leveraging Intelligence, Attribution, and Operational Security) in the facility. This in-house, award-winning innovation enhances threat attribution, operational security, and proactive defence, making it instrumental in safeguarding Malaysia’s digital assets and supporting Axiata’s extensive network across 12 markets and multiple sectors.

HELIOS has significantly reduced the time and resources required for threat detection from 12 weeks to just one week. Through end-to-end automation, offensive security approaches, and integration with real-time threat intelligence, the platform enables proactive vulnerability management whilst seamlessly aligning with ACFC’s cybersecurity initiatives.

Meanwhile, the facility has partnered with Perdana University in October 2024 to allow the latter’s students to gain unique access to the facility’s world-class cybersecurity capabilities and hands-on experience with real-world threats and challenges, fostering a pipeline of skilled cybersecurity professionals and strengthening Malaysia’s digital future.

HELIOS is designed to provide end-to-end attack surface discovery and proactive threat mitigation across Axiata’s extensive digital ecosystem. By leveraging offensive security techniques, the platform simulates an attacker’s perspective to uncover vulnerabilities before they can be exploited. Its seamless integration with cybersecurity functions, including threat intelligence, vulnerability management, and security monitoring, enables a holistic defence strategy.

One of HELIOS’s key strengths lies in its advanced dark web monitoring capabilities, which detect leaked credentials in real time, allowing Axiata to implement pre-emptive security measures. The platform also reduces false positives, ensuring greater accuracy in threat detection and enabling security teams to focus on critical threats. Through automation, it streamlines complex cybersecurity workflows, significantly reducing the time and resources required for threat detection and response.

HELIOS incorporates a diverse suite of technologies, including DNS enumeration, open cloud container discovery, IP and subdomain tracking, phishing domain detection, and vulnerability scanning. Additionally, its credential-gathering crawler enhances security by continuously monitoring the dark web for compromised data. With intuitive data visualisations and real-time monitoring, HELIOS empowers security teams to make informed, data-driven decisions and respond swiftly to evolving cyber threats.
