Asian Hospital and Medical Center lands two wins at Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025

Its outstanding management and major clinical initiatives, Code STEMI and BAT Protocols, have bolstered AHMC’s reputation and reliability.

Private tertiary hospital Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) bagged two major titles at the Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025 for the strategic prowess and compassionate approach of its CEO and President, Dr Beaver Tamesis, as well as its two lifesaving clinical protocols, Code ST-elevated Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) and Brain Attack (BAT) Protocol, that aim to provide timely and quality healthcare.

Tamesis’ corporate leadership demonstrates his grit, compassion, intelligence, and relentless pursuit of excellence. His mission has been to transform the hospital and make quality care accessible to all, especially those in need. The evidence of his exceptional leadership and governance is seen in the significant growth across multiple areas, including the increase in functional beds from 206 to 260, a more than 50% reduction in nurse attrition, and the expansion of services with extended hours to meet the growing public demand. Additionally, there has been a notable increase in the retention of technologists and the rollout of new services to further serve the community.

His approach to shared leadership has reshaped how AHMC works on a daily basis and has accelerated the hospital’s transformation. This has led to the creation of multiple health packages that helped every Filipino on social media understand that AHMC services are highly valuable and affordable. He has also fostered a culture of collaboration, innovation, and creativity with this approach.

“[Tamesis] is not only leading the institution but also transforming all current and future leaders of this great organisation. This is a lasting lifetime legacy that impacts our lives not only professionally but on a personal level as well and transcends organisational boundaries,” the company said.

For his strong leadership, the AHMC President and CEO brought home the Philippines Executive of the Year - Healthcare category win at the prestigious awards programme.

Meanwhile, AHMC’s Code STEMI and BAT Protocol stemmed from recent studies that show atherosclerosis and its clinical presentation as either heart attacks or brain stroke diseases have become the leading cause of mortality in the Philippines and are now considered a public health emergency.

The standard for clinically addressing ST elevation myocardial infarction (commonly known as heart attacks as seen on EKG) STEMI is less than 90 minutes from arrival at the emergency department door until the balloon catheter is inflated (Door-to-Balloon), and the standard management of a stroke or brain attack, BAT benchmarks at less than 60 minutes from emergency department door arrival until administration of the rTPA (Door-to-Needle).

From a Door-to-Balloon Time performance of 130 minutes in 2022, conducting a systematic root cause analysis, creation of a project team, and project charter, the rigorous application of the STEMI protocol to a performance of a mean Door-to-Balloon time of 89 minutes and a median of 93 minutes, or a 31.54% reduction in 2023. The hospital maintained the time within 90 minutes in 2024.

On the other hand, the BAT Protocol of 75 minutes Door-to-Needle Time performance in 2022 has shown interventions that led to a 33% reduction to 50 minutes Door-to-Needle Time in 2023 and remains relatively close to an international benchmark of 61 minutes in 2024.

“The initiatives have greatly adapted to the increasing incidence of STEMI and BAT and our desire to provide these patients the best possible chance at a good outcome. The timely and efficient identification of STEMI and stroke and their improved performance align with international standards, demonstrating a proactive approach to enhancing patient outcomes,” AHMC said.

This innovation in the healthcare sector has been honoured with the Philippines Health and Wellness Initiative of the Year - Healthcare category win.
