Appear recognised for IP transformation at Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards 2026
The company developed an IP media transport platform to improve broadcast contribution and distribution workflows.
Appear received an accolade in the IP Transformation - Qatar category at the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards 2026 for its work with beIN Asia Pacific on upgrading live sports contribution infrastructure. The project covers broadcast feed distribution and international content contribution, using Appear’s X Platform, including the X20 and X10 chassis, to support IP-based media transport.
The deployment introduces a dedicated distribution environment through the X20 encoder, configured in a 1+1 redundancy setup. It processes 44 live feeds from IP and SDI sources and operates separately from OTT and playout systems. This separation addresses previous capacity constraints and enables distribution to external partners and editing environments without relying on shared infrastructure.
For international contribution, the project includes the X10 platform, linking facilities in Doha and Singapore. The system supports four contribution feeds using AVC encoders in a 1+1 redundancy configuration. It replaces leased fibre circuits with Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) over the public internet, allowing faster provisioning and reducing connectivity costs whilst maintaining broadcast-grade video transport.
The platform’s modular design supports high-density media processing within a compact footprint, reducing rack space, cooling, and power requirements. It also supports features such as 1080i to 1080p conversion with logo insertion and hardware readiness for 4K workflows, allowing the infrastructure to accommodate future production requirements.
Sabil Salim, Vice President, Media Technology & Operations at beIN Asia Pacific, said the deployment marked a shift towards IP-based workflows. He added that the X20 platform provides dedicated capacity for broadcast partners and remote editing, whilst the X10 system improves efficiency in international contribution and addresses limitations associated with previous infrastructure.
