Analysing social media shopping trends

Smitarani Tripathy, who is a Social Media Analyst at GlobalData, has discovered that TikTok is fast becoming a sought-after platform for online shopping. Based on GlobalData's research, TikTok emerged as the most popular media app among 30% of people discussing online shopping topics.

TikTok has implemented new features, such as a 5G-enabled shopping experience with Why Shop, e-commerce fulfillment and shipping centers, and shopping app features, to enhance the shopping experience on the platform. Following Instagram's decision to remove its marketplace option, TikTok could seize an opportunity to entice brands and creators seeking novel shopping and advertising opportunities. As TikTok's popularity continues to grow, particularly among younger age groups, it may become the top choice for online shopping.

Nonetheless, the mounting competition on TikTok may lead to an escalation in advertising and influencer partnership costs, which could make it challenging for small businesses to keep pace. It is uncertain how TikTok's e-commerce platform and other initiatives will impact its reputation as an online shopping destination going forward.
