Planetcast wins in sports broadcasting at Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards 2026

The company implemented an IP-first architecture that streamlined workflows and reduced operational complexity.

Planetcast won the Sports Broadcasting - Singapore category at the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards 2026 for its Cloud.X Turbo deployment, which restructured live sports broadcast operations for beIN Asia Pacific. The project replaced legacy SDI-based systems with a hybrid SDI + IP architecture and introduced centralised control from a Singapore hub, supporting distribution across 12 Asia-Pacific markets.

The transition addressed limitations in previously fragmented and manual workflows that relied on a third-party provider and required significant manpower. Operations shifted to an IP-based network using Secure Reliable Transport protocol, allowing simultaneous management of more than 40 live sports events across 17 channels (16 Linear + 1 FAST), 10 affiliates, and 26 OTT streams. The change reduced dependence on satellite and fibre infrastructure and allowed more flexible scaling of live content delivery.

A hybrid-remote operating model consolidated live broadcast activities in Singapore, whilst non-live processes such as quality control, recording, and content management moved to remote hubs in India. A unified control layer enabled operators to handle ingest, segmentation, and playout preparation in real time, improving coordination across workflows that support both live and pre-recorded programming.

Automation played a central role in the deployment. The Feed Management and Distribution System reduced more than 40 configuration steps per feed into a single workflow. Input configurations automatically extended across satellite receivers, SRT receivers, decoders, and OTT outputs, reducing manual intervention. The system also supported dynamic playout adjustments, allowing schedule, promotion, and advertising changes during live sports events.

Operational outcomes included a significant reduction in costs, manpower requirements, and technical faults during the initial phase of deployment. The platform maintained 99.99% uptime whilst supporting low-latency playout across regional markets. Coverage included major sports properties such as Formula 1, the UEFA Champions League, and the Australian Open, delivered consistently across multiple territories.

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards celebrate the pioneers redefining the broadcasting industry through cutting-edge technology, digitalisation, and engineering excellence. It highlights groundbreaking projects and innovations shaping the future of broadcasting across the Asia-Pacific region.
