Asia-Pacific ventricular assist device market surges on rising disease burden

The market is projected to reach $2.81b by 2031, growing annually at 8.44%.

Asia-Pacific is an emerging high-growth region in the ventricular assist device (VAD) market due to rising healthcare expenditure, improving access to cardiac care, and increasing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in China, India, and Japan.

A Mordor Intelligence report said the global VAD market is set to reach $2.81b by 2031 from $1.88b in 2026, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.44%, driven by increasing cases of heart failure linked to ageing populations, sedentary lifestyles, hypertension, and diabetes.

In 2025, the market was valued at $1.73b, with bridge-to-transplant (BTT) therapy holding over 48.7% share, supported by rising use of mechanical circulatory support systems for patients awaiting heart transplants and those ineligible for transplantation.

Hospitals and cardiac centres use ventricular assist devices as BTT and destination therapy to support survival in advanced heart failure cases.

Product development focuses on continuous-flow devices, miniaturised components, and battery systems, which improve durability and patient use whilst reducing complications.

The integration of remote monitoring and digital health systems supports patient tracking and clinical decision-making, the report said.

By product type, the market includes left ventricular assist devices, right ventricular assist devices, biventricular assist devices, and total artificial heart systems.

By design, it includes implantable, transcutaneous, and percutaneous micro-axial devices.

By application, the market is segmented into BTT, destination therapy, bridge-to-recovery, and bridge-to-decision.

Companies focus on product development, regulatory approvals, and partnerships, alongside research and development to improve device performance and reduce complications, including minimally invasive implantation techniques.
