Nearly 7 in 10 ENR executives believe AI will transform their operations by 2030

They see it beneficial in improving maintenance and production, amongst others.

Around 65% of energy and natural resources (ENR) executives in 2023 believed that artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies will contribute significantly to their operations by 2030, with the share increasing from 56% in 2022.

In a report, Bain & Company said 70% of the executives see generative AI to improve maintenance, including predictive maintenance.

The technology will also improve production optimisation (58%), and supply chain optimisation (54%).

Executives also expect AI to close the talent gap (29%), reduce carbon intensity (25%), and reduce emissions from the end-use of products (21%).

Bain also noted that ENR companies are using generative AI together with other AI technologies.

For example, a renewable energy developer uses AI-enabled analytics software to monitor maintenance issues before they occur. Now, its field technicians use newer generative AI tools to easily access information and recommendations to resolve maintenance requests.
