Nizamsculpture Studio nabs Malaysia National Business Award for Arts & Lifestyle

Its latest sculpture is the largest piece created by renowned sculpture artist Nizam Abdullah to date.

Nizamsculpture Studio has taken its artistic concepts and aspirations to new heights with its Meranti Sculpture, which can be found in Eupe Corporation’s second residential project Parc3 in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

The installation weighs roughly 2,000 kg and features 28 seeds hanging down the atrium from the highest floor at level 46 down to level 8, allowing residents to view it from different perspectives from each floor. Said to be the largest hanging sculpture in the country, Nizamsculpture Studio is in the midst of receiving the Malaysia Book of Record recognition for this feat.

The concept of the sculpture is based on achieving great heights and realising one’s dream, with the shorea seeds representing positive vibes to push people in achieving their goals and dreams. Meranti trees, also known as shorea, are the tallest tropical trees in the world, with the tallest standing at 100.8 metres in Sabah’s rainforest.

Nizamsculpture Studio was founded in 2012 by renowned Malaysian sculpture artist Nizam Abdullah, who has been in the business since 2004. Nizam specialises in metal sculptures, and the Meranti sculpture is the largest public artwork he has created to date.

The studio focuses on being a specialist in “Sculpture Design and Build” and providing professional and artistic consultations to its clients on projects spanning indoor and outdoor public sculptures, functioning sculptures for playgrounds or gyms, wall sculptures and even mini sculptures specially designed for homes and offices, and even corporate gifts. Behind each piece of public artwork is a vision of bringing people together and inspiring them to make positive social choices.

For its outstanding efforts to take art appreciation to the next level, Nizamsculpture Studio bagged the Malaysia National Business Award for Arts & Lifestyle at the recently concluded 2022 Malaysia National Business Awards. Now in its second year, the awards programme lauds homegrown Malaysian companies across various industries with exceptional projects or innovative internal practices that boost Malaysia’s fast-growing economy.

Meranti sculpture is not the only piece Nizam has created for Eupe Corporation. Art sculptures curated by Nizam can be found amongst other artworks in the lobby and common facility floors of serviced residence Novum in South Bangsar. Nizam also sculpted the residence’s outdoor gym equipment, with the aim of merging health and fitness with art.

Some of Nizamsculpture Studio’s other pieces are showcased in notable buildings and landmarks in the country, such as Solaris Dutamas, Publika and Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur, Mall of Medini in Nusajaya, Johor and Victoria Street on Penang Island.

Amongst these pieces is the 6-metre tall art-deco sculpture that can be found at Sultan Abu Bakar Monument Park within the Ibrahim International Business District (IIBD) in Johor. Two of four cornerstone pieces, the sculptures are also inspired by the meranti tree and features recycled materials with broken coloured glasses built into its base and stainless steel serving as its branches that extend out into leaves and wind chimes.

The urban trees installation aims to serve as a reminder that there is beauty in recycled materials, whilst also underscoring a responsibility to take positive eco-friendly and sustainable actions.
