Hong Kong imposes travel ban on Indonesia

Starting 25 June, Indonesia will be considered as an “extremely high-risk” area.

All passenger flights from Indonesia will be banned from landing in Hong Kong, starting 25 June, the government announced.

Indonesia will also be identified as an “extremely high-risk” area, following reports that the number of imported cases from Indonesia exceeded the threshold.

Under existing mechanism, the government will automatically impose the ban if a total of 5 or more passengers from the same place are confirmed positive for COVID-19 with mutant strain upon arrival; or 10 or more were positive within a seven-day period.

"The Government will continue to closely monitor the epidemic situation of various places, the prevalence of new virus variants, vaccination progress, and changes in the volume of cross-boundary passenger traffic, and will adjust the boarding and compulsory quarantine requirements for persons arriving at Hong Kong from relevant places as the situation warrants," a government spokesman said.

Meanwhile, the travel ban on India, Nepal, Pakistan, and the Philippines will remain in place.

The government had earlier raised the risk level of Indonesia to very-high risk from high-risk following the rising cases of COVID-19 with mutant strains in the area.
