S&J International Enterprise wins at the Asian Technology Excellence Awards for its sunscreen products

This is anchored in the company’s research project on red rice and aqua-matte technology.

To compete in the beauty & cosmetics industry, it is important for brands to offer products that will differentiate them from their competitors to stand out in the marketplace. S&J International Enterprises Public Company Limited recognised the importance of sunscreen as it protects the skin from the sun's rays which can cause premature aging and skin cancer. Whilst its first attempt to create sunscreen was unsuccessful, it did not stop the company from creating but having the attempt to do continuously targeted to the goal of success.

This has led S&J International to the project that is anchored at its research on red rice and aqua-matte technology. The results of the project brought to the launch of its exclusive red rice ingredient that can be used for formulating an efficient sunscreen, whilst its exclusive aqua-matte technology can be applied for the provision of the light, hydrate-feel and matte-look sunscreen. The project is also emphasised SPF50+ PA++++ coral-safe sunscreens for better sun and environmental protection.

The product innovation has won S&J International the Thailand Technology Excellence Award for Design Technology - Beauty & Cosmetics trophy at the Asian Technology Excellence Awards 2023.

Mistine Aqua Base Ultra Protection Matte and Light Facial Sunscreen Pro SPF 50+ PA++++ . Formulated with red jasmine rice and aqua matte technology

S&J International’s first sunscreen under the project is the Mistine Aqua Base Ultra Protection Matte and Light Facial Sunscreen Pro SPF 50+ PA++++. Before launching of the product by the end of 2022, the company had to equip itself with an understanding of its targeted consumer needs, particularly in China where the product had been notified to be the main market.

In working on the product targeting China, the study not only considered the Chinese regulations but also the Chinese consumers’ needs and behaviour in using sunscreens, alongside the most suitable marketing strategies in the market.

S&J International came up with the concept of “Harmonizing physical, chemical and biological activities for potential sun protection, environmentally friendly and feeling good” in offering sunscreens. Its products have coral-safe physical and chemical sunscreen ingredients boosted with a natural active ingredient to provide SPF50+ PA++++ along with other natural bio-actives to protect the skin more effectively.

The product is also crafted to be lightweight, highly hydrated, and matte.

The company’s first offer under the project is from its research on red jasmine rice bran extract which was found to have the potential to absorb ultraviolet and boost SPF. The research also revealed the extract to have other biological activities. These included the effects on inhibition of free radicals, collagenase, glycation and MMP-1 production. On the contrary, the extract showed the effects on the stimulation of antioxidant enzymes and procollagen synthesis. Results from S&J International’s own research are likely to promote red rice for its efficacy in retarding premature ageing induced by UV radiations and other factors.

S&J International’s second offer meanwhile, is from its research on aqua-matte technology which explored the use of suitable emulsifier type, aqua polymer and modified sunscreen for better water solubility. Through a suitable mixing process, a balanced system of emulsion, an important factor for homogeneity and stability, is achieved. The come-out bulk texture was less intense with an aqua look leading a sunscreen product with this sensation has been highly welcome in China.

This received two awards, from the Saha Group and the Thailand Food and Drug Administration, for the outstanding innovative product.

The company’s second sunscreen formulated with red jasmine rice bran extract and aqua-matte technology came out closely. It is the Mistine Aqua Base Ultra Protection Essence Skincare Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++.

The product has the same texture as the first product but is different in some efficacies due to differently added active ingredients to serve different targets.

Lome Sun Protect Plus Ultra SPF 50+ PA++++ . Formulated with red rose rice and AerCos technology

S&J International sold over a million pieces from production orders for both sunscreens in January - June 2023, supporting Mistine sunscreen sales to reach No. 1 in China during this first half of the year. The project on red rice and technology for sun protection and skin health will continue through alteration and modification. For example, a sunscreen for a different customer that will be launched in September 2023 uses red rose rice and AerCos technology. It is the Löme Sun Protect Plus Ultra SPF50+ PA++++.

Central to the Bank’s transformation was the opening of Smart Bank Centres and the launch of the Canadia Bank App, replete with unique features like group transactions and a loyalty points system.  In an era marked by rapid technological advancements and shifting customer preferences, the financial industry finds itself at a crossroads. Institutions across the globe are striving to innovate and digitise, with the aim of striking a balance between tradition and the demands of a digitally driven world. Canadia Bank Plc., a prominent player in Cambodia's banking landscape, recognised the need to adapt and embarked on a remarkable digital transformation journey. The bank’s digital transformation has led the company to win the Digital - Banking category of the Asian Technology Excellence Awards 2023. This recognition serves as a testament to their dedication and innovation. “We are delighted and thankful for Asian Business Review’s recognition of Canadia Bank in the Asian Technology Excellence Awards in Digital Banking. This recognition encourages and motivates us even more as we continue our digital transformation journey,” said Mr Raymond Sia Say Guan, CEO of Canadia Bank. In this article, we delve into the details of Canadia Bank's award-winning initiative and explore what sets them apart in the world of banking. Embracing digital transformation Canadia Bank's digital transformation journey gained momentum in 2020 to 2021, amidst the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This challenging backdrop encouraged the bank to allocate more resources, both in terms of human capital and capital expenditure, towards digital initiatives. The goal was to adapt to the rapidly changing economic and customer landscape at both domestic and global levels. The bank conducted in-depth analyses and developed a strategic roadmap to enhance operational processes, business models, solutions, technologies, and corporate culture. The primary focus was on elevating customer satisfaction and experiences through innovation and technology application. This approach aligned perfectly with Canadia Bank's core values of innovation and customer-centricity. “Going through the digital transformation exercise is fulfilling and challenging at the same time; we consider this a marathon, and we are still in the middle of it,” the Bank noted. Canadia Bank's management and its dedicated team turned challenges into valuable learning experiences, fostering collaboration and resilience. The launch of the new Canadia Bank App in February marked a significant milestone in their digital transformation journey. This mobile app has several unique features that set it apart from others in the industry. The Canadia Bank App not only boasts exceptional performance but also offers unique functionalities. One standout feature is its ability to facilitate group transactions seamlessly. Customers can transfer funds to multiple recipients quickly and securely, enhancing convenience for family and friends. Another distinct feature is the incorporation of a loyalty points system. These tailored offerings create a comprehensive digital payment ecosystem, serving corporate, SME, and merchant customers. Smart bank centres: Bridging the gap Canadia Bank's commitment to digital transformation was emphasised as they expanded their network by opening Smart Bank Centres, digital hubs designed to offer full banking services with modern facilities. Equipped with self-service digital devices, these centres aim to increase accessibility whilst optimising costs. These centres promote self-service devices with cutting-edge technology, enhancing the customer experience by streamlining processes effectively. The highly skilled and multi-lingual Relationship Managers in these centres also provide expert financial advice, adding a human touch to the digital experience. Looking ahead, Canadia Bank remains focused on technological advancement, data-related initiatives, and refining corporate culture. It is intensifying data governance, analytics, and protection efforts to safeguard customer information. Additionally, it is enhancing its data analytics capabilities and promoting a positive work mindset within the organisation. In Canadia Bank's view, a digital transformation journey is ongoing and evolving. The bank’s goal is to continually innovate its products and services to meet customers' financial needs with sophistication and unwavering dedication.
