Pertamina bags two wins at Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025

It has fostered a workforce that takes initiative and pride in their daily responsibilities.

Indonesia state-owned national energy company Pertamina brought home two wins at the coveted Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025 for the successful implementation of its employee engagement programme Pertamina Talks and its community-driven diversity & inclusion initiative Komunitas Bergerak.

Pertamina Talks is a programme initially designed for an internal audience that aims to internalise Pertamina’s culture, values, strategy, strategic programme, corporate campaign, and philosophy amongst its employees. However, the audience’s enthusiasm and the discussion points allowed the programme to evolve, as it is now being broadcast via external media platforms to reach a wider audience with the aim of enhancing the company’s positive image.

In addition to communicating the company’s strategic initiatives to the public, it provides a platform for employees to share their personal stories and achievements. By presenting themselves as inspirational figures, employees are recognised as key contributors to the company’s success, fostering a sense of pride and motivating them to make meaningful contributions to Pertamina’s business and operations.

Since 2023, Pertamina Talks has partnered with leading broadcast media in Indonesia, offering an opportunity for external audiences to learn about the company’s growth, business processes, and inspiring stories in a fun and informal way.

The programme has proven to be highly effective in fostering employee engagement, as evidenced by the positive feedback from its viewers, who appreciate the insightfulness in sharing Pertamina’s business endeavours from 2023 to 2024.

Its success is further demonstrated by its extensive reach of more than 5.3 million, with numerous episodes featuring a diverse range of speakers from Pertamina’s Board of Directors to its inspiring employees, covering relevant topics that resonate with the workforce.

“The growing number of viewers from 2023 to 2024 highlights the programme's ability to attract and engage employees, solidifying its role as a key platform for internal communication and knowledge sharing,” the company said.

Pertamina received the Indonesia Employee Engagement of the Year - Energy category win for the success of the Pertamina Talks.

Meanwhile, the company’s Komunitas Bergerak (Community in Action) seeks to strengthen employee cohesiveness whilst giving back to society.

Founded in 2022 on the belief that small actions can lead to meaningful change, the initiative involves employees in various community activities aimed at addressing societal needs, such as providing water and sanitary access, providing food assistance, providing school uniforms and education funds, mentoring and upskilling, and many other social activities.

Komunitas Bergerak places emphasis on sustainable, long-term impact that could contribute significantly to the employees’ greater sense of responsibility and collaboration. The Internal Communications Function of the company organises the event around pillars of motivation, collaboration, and participation.

The initiative was initially conducted as part of Pertamina’s anniversary celebration series, where a certain amount of budget for social activities was provided by the company. However, with the enthusiasm present, the Komunitas Bergerak programme has been expanded and developed into a social movement programme carried out independently and with self-funding.

Despite limited funding from the company’s Internal Communications Function, the communities have fully embraced the vision of Komunitas Bergerak by adopting a crowdfunding approach to support their activities, raising a total of IDR2.4b (US$142,000) In over two years, Komunitas Bergerak has engaged 231 communities within Pertamina, involving more than 3,500 employees and benefitting over 22,000 recipients across 24 provinces across the nation.

The consistent implementation of Komunitas Bergerak has resulted in a more cohesive workforce and a meaningful, lasting impact on society and amongst employees.

For this feat, Pertamina won the Indonesia Diversity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year - Energy category.
