Dr. Syazwani Idrus
Dr. Syazwani Idrus is an Associate Professor in the Water and Environmental Engineering Unit, Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
She specialises in anaerobic digestion, biogas production, waste-to-energy technologies, wastewater treatment, and resource recovery, with extensive experience in developing and optimizing large-scale biogas systems using diverse organic substrates.
She has collaborated with industry partners, including Besino Environment Ltd, Tenaga Nasional Berhad - TNB Research, Forward Energy, A&Z Power Generation, and Entomal Biotech to develop innovative and commercially viable bioenergy solutions.
A former Deputy Director of UPM's International Centre, she currently leads the Master in Water Engineering programme and actively fosters international collaborations and industry partnerships across Asia. Her work bridges research and industry to advance energy recovery, sustainable waste management, and Asia's transition to a circular, low-carbon economy.
