Yayasan Bank Rakyat wins accolade at Malaysia National Business Awards 2025

With over a decade of impactful initiatives, YBR continues to empower underprivileged communities.

Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has been honoured in the Excellence Award in the Non-Profit Organisation category at the Malaysia National Business Awards 2025. This recognition highlights YBR's commitment to delivering holistic services that not only provide immediate relief but also foster long-term socioeconomic development.

Since its inception over a decade ago, YBR has made significant strides in elevating the education of underprivileged Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, or creed. The organisation aims to enhance not only their educational standards but also their socioeconomic status through knowledge-sharing and by promoting mutual cooperation and support.

YBR's community engagement goes beyond mere philanthropy; it focusses on cultivating independent, self-sufficient communities. Each initiative aligns with the organisation’s core values and strategic objectives, often implemented in collaboration with government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and other independent entities.

One of YBR's flagship programmes, the Convertible Study Aid, serves as a financial assistance scheme that enables academically talented yet financially disadvantaged students to pursue higher education at local institutions. To date, RM212m has been disbursed, benefitting more than 7,468 students in various fields of study aligned with social and economic development needs.

Another key focus area for YBR is Public Welfare, which has significantly improved the lives of many underprivileged Malaysians through educational support. As of 2024, the foundation has reached 1,535,453 individuals, contributing a cumulative total of RM121.99m through various outreach initiatives.

Additionally, YBR’s Free School Tuition programme provides extra classes for underserved secondary school students, helping to bridge the educational gap between urban and rural areas. This initiative has positively impacted more than 132,119 beneficiaries, representing an investment of RM7.44m across numerous schools nationwide.

YBR plays a pivotal role in promoting educational equity, supporting underprivileged communities, and empowering future generations to thrive independently.

The organisation also fosters a spirit of volunteerism amongst its student beneficiaries, employees, and the public, encouraging active participation in community service.

“Through diverse programmes — ranging from humanitarian projects to educational support — our volunteerism fosters a spirit of giving back and strengthens the bond between YBR and the communities it serves,” the company said.

This major achievement underscores YBR's dedication to making a meaningful impact and sets a benchmark for excellence in the non-profit sector in Malaysia.
