OQ Technology bags Middle East Technology Excellence Awards for IoT - Satellite

The satellite-based 5G NB-IoT networks can extend coverage to underserved regions.

Satellite telecom operator OQ Technology brought home the IoT - Satellite category win at the Middle East Technology Excellence Awards for its 5G Narrow-Band IoT and Machine-to-Machine capabilities that leverages the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards to provide plug-and-play solutions that work seamlessly across terrestrial and satellite networks.

3GPP plays a crucial role in the development and standardisation of global telecommunications technologies. It also ensures interoperability between different network components and devices.

This standardisation allows seamless integration of satellite-based 5G NB-IoT communications with terrestrial networks, promoting worldwide connectivity. This also enables uninterrupted communication for IoT devices as they move between different coverage areas, including transitions between satellite and terrestrial coverage zones.

Moreover, the satellite-based 5G NB-IoT communications leverage the scalability and capacity advantages offered by the 3GPP framework. The 3GPP standards enable efficient resource allocation, spectrum management, and quality of service provisions, allowing satellite networks to support a large number of IoT devices and handle high data traffic loads.

It also ensures compatibility and harmonisation between different components of the communication ecosystem, including user devices, base stations, core networks, and services. By adhering to 3GPP standards, satellite-based 5G NB-IoT networks can seamlessly integrate with existing infrastructure and services, enabling a unified and cohesive IoT ecosystem.

“These benefits of leveraging 3GPP for satellite-based 5G NB-IoT communications contribute to enhanced connectivity, improved IoT device management, and the expansion of IoT services to previously underserved areas, thereby promoting the growth and adoption of IoT technologies on a global scale,” the company said.
