Leap, Telkom vehicle to accelerate Indonesia’s digital transformation
The initiative garnered the Indonesia Technology Excellence Award for Digital - IT Services at the Asian Technology Excellence Awards.
Based on startupranking.com, Indonesia is in 6th place as the country with the most startups, with 2,415 currently established in the country. With many resources, Indonesia is a potential place to develop startups.
With this in mind, Indonesia’s State-owned telecommunications company, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has encapsulated three strategies to establish its digital business: build, borrow, and buy. By applying the build strategy, Telkom is developing the digital infrastructure capability and honing the competencies of the companies’ digital talents to provide the best services to the people. Telkom applies the borrowing strategy through its strategic partnership with various prominent technology companies domestically and globally. Meanwhile, Telkom used the buying strategy through several investments that prioritised synergy that could drive the digital capabilities of Telkom Group.
As a form of the company’s strategy and commitment to accelerate Indonesia’s digital transformation, Telkom has created several innovations through its umbrella brand for digital products: Leap. This digital innovator delivers transformative solutions and products to support Indonesia’s social and economic development.
“Leap is the core engine of transformation to realise Indonesia’s digital sovereignty. Through various innovations owned by Leap, in the future, there will be more digital solutions to improve the quality of life of the Indonesian people. The presence of Leap will have a big impact on Indonesia to make a leapfrog to be on par with other developed countries in the world,” said Telkom’s Director of Digital Business, Muhamad Fajrin Rasyid.
Some of the products under Leap are MyTEns, Pijar, Agree, Logee, PaDi UMKM, BigBox, Antares, and other digital products. In addition to Leap’s win in the IT Services category at the Asian Technology Excellence Awards, MyTens has also been selected as the Enterprise Software - Telecommunications category winner.
MyTEnS is one of the firm’s innovations aimed at answering the need for transparency and simplification of business processes, which have implications for improving business performance and increasing customer experience in the enterprise business environment.
Telkom built it with an agile development method to ensure that it will solve several painful problems in the right manner. There are several policies, business processes, and people behaviour that need to be incorporated and this is why the company does a deep and close engagement with several units in CFU EBIS itself.
MyTEnS proved to have significant benefits by successfully increasing AM profitability after its implementation in January 2020. In Non-Financial aspects, MyTenS improved AM productivity and consultative selling skills that have been minimised because AM only needs to do a single input in MyTEnS. 73% of account managers get the experience that MyTEnS helps them in their daily operations beyond their expectations.
Pijar Mahir is an educational program to improve the quality of human resources in Indonesia. It targets potential workers to provide them with proper training and high-quality mentors. The platform has had over 1.4 million users since 2020 and has delivered over 2,000 training and workshops to support SMEs across Indonesia.
Telkom has also introduced the integrated application-based platform Agree, which supports the farming, fishery, and agriculture sectors to build food security and the welfare of Indonesian farmers and fishermen. It operates mainly in West Java, Lampung, and Lombok. Agree has generated over IDR213b by connecting 72,000 farmers and 150 agriculture companies all over Indonesia.
Meanwhile, another Leap product, Logee, helps transform Indonesian logistics to fit the rapid growth of the new commerce era. It provides solutions that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of logistics, mainly to tackle its high costs. The network has brought together over 140 cargo owners, 230 truckers, 13,000 transport units, and thousands of users since its launch.
Moreover, Leap introduced PaDi UMKM, a platform supporting state-owned enterprises that provides transparency and ease of access to suppliers. The platform features a marketplace and e-procurement, which creates a more efficient way for tenders and purchases. The platform already has over 71,000 registered SMEs and 59 state-owned corporations, generating hundreds of thousands of transactions worth IDR24.8t.
Leap has a big data and data integration solution product that supports the transformation toward digitalisation. BigBox simplifies the complex process, providing enterprises with valuable insights quickly and easily. BigBox successfully integrated more than a thousand gas stations throughout Indonesia, handling more than 15 million daily transactions. BigBox runs the COVID-19 Vaccine One Data information system at the Indonesian Ministry of Health with the implementation of a Big Data Multicluster of more than 100 nodes and processing more than 50 million API transactions every month.
It also has an Internet of Things (IoT) solution: Antares, an end-to-end IoT solutions provider committed to empowering enterprises in Indonesia. Telkom aims to solve its customers’ business challenges by helping them to optimise, grow, and transform their businesses through IoT solutions. Antares has supported different sectors, such as smart farming, smart manufacturing, smart cities, and smart transportation. Antares supports private and government sectors to speed up digitalisation implementation in Indonesia.
Telkom is continuing its growth and development to become a leading innovator in Indonesia. The efforts and intricacies of its Leap brand and digital products have been recognised by the Asian Technology Excellence Awards, as the company brought home the Indonesia Technology Excellence Award for Digital - IT Services award.
