BPJS Kesehatan wins two accolades at Indonesia Technology Excellence Awards 2024 for digital services

The company was recognised in the Information Management - Healthcare and Mobile - Healthcare categories.

The award-winning services have assisted participants in managing their health insurance and facilitated access to healthcare services. The Social Security Agency (BPJS) Health of Indonesia received two coveted awards at the Indonesia Technology Excellence Awards 2024. These awards were given for the National Health Insurance (JKN) electronic medical record system ICARE JKN and the Mobile JKN app, which provides easy access to healthcare services for participants.

ICARE JKN, recognised with the Indonesia Technology Excellence Award 2024 in the Information Management - Healthcare and Mobile - Healthcare categories, is a system developed by BPJS Kesehatan that enables doctors to seamlessly access patients' health service histories across various healthcare facilities throughout Indonesia.

The primary goal of BPJS Kesehatan in developing this system is to create a centralised database system that securely collects and stores electronic health records from various healthcare facilities; develop an integrated, user-friendly, and scalable system so that doctors can easily access and search patients' health service histories; ensure compliance with privacy and data security regulations; and improve service efficiency and quality for patients.

Primary healthcare facilities can access ICARE JKN through the BPJS Kesehatan PCARE app, whilst hospitals can access the system via a connecting mechanism using a URL to view the ICARE JKN web interface. Individual participants can also access ICARE JKN through the Mobile JKN app to view their healthcare service history.

"This award proves that our health insurance information system is not only effective but also up to international standards. ICARE JKN allows medical professionals to obtain accurate and up-to-date data, which is crucial for medical decision-making provided to JKN participants," said BPJS Kesehatan President Director Ghufron Mukti, who was also accompanied by BPJS Kesehatan Information Technology Director Edwin Aristiawan.

Meanwhile, Mobile JKN exemplifies BPJS Kesehatan’s commitment to providing easy access and optimal service for clients. Through this app, participants can check their membership status, view their health insurance benefits, and access their healthcare service history. The app also allows members to find healthcare providers and hospitals that are part of the BPJS Kesehatan network and schedule appointments with these providers.

In addition to doctors, JKN participants can also directly access ICARE JKN through the Mobile JKN app. This allows JKN participants to easily view their service history at both primary and advanced healthcare facilities. The goal is that with various digital innovations, services can become increasingly accessible, faster, and more equitable.

"In addition to benefiting medical professionals, ICARE JKN also facilitates communication and collaboration amongst doctors, especially when patients are referred to other doctors or specialists. This app will interact with the PCARE app and hospital information systems through bridging schemes, enabling smoother information exchange amongst various healthcare providers," added Ghufron.

At the same time, teleconsultations are now enabled through the app, making it easier for patients to be examined by doctors, particularly for non-emergency services. This frees up space in healthcare facilities whilst still addressing patient needs. At the end of the teleconsultation, participants receive a summary of the health consultation, including a list of prescribed medications.

BPJS Kesehatan received the Indonesia Technology Excellence Award in the Mobile - Health category for the success of Mobile JKN.

These two awards not only attest to BPJS Kesehatan's implementation of technology but also reaffirm our commitment to enhancing the quality of health insurance services in Indonesia. Through these innovations, BPJS Kesehatan strives to address the challenges of ensuring better access to healthcare services for all JKN participants," added Ghufron.
