How companies can win Gen Z talent

A study found that full-week onsite work will drive them away.

Companies implementing a two-to-three-day onsite work model are more likely to attract Gen Z talent.

A study by the International Workplace Group found that over six in 10 Gen Z workers in Singapore see two to three days in the office as the ideal balance for productivity.

If employers insist that their employees work in the office more often, about seven in 10 (69%) Gen Z workers said they would leave their jobs.

On days when they don't work in the office, most Gen Z workers (78%) prefer to work anywhere but their homes. Around 40%  would choose to work in a professional workplace near their homes instead.

The study also found that a major reason why eight in 10 Gen Z workers prefer hybrid work is the hassle of daily commuting. Frustration with long, crowded commutes ranked among the top three factors (28%) why some Gen Z workers have left their previous jobs.

This is likely because Gen Z views commuting as not only a time-consuming hassle (37%) but also a significant economic burden (38%).

Other factors driving Gen Z away from their workplaces include a lack of work-life balance (39%) and concerns about mental (34%) and physical well-being (32%).

Similarly, Gen Z won’t accept jobs that are too inflexible on working hours (68%) and location (61%).

"For Gen Z, hybrid working is more than just a trend but a pathway to improved work-life integration and overall career fulfilment. This view reflects a deeper understanding that flexibility is not merely a passing trend but a sustainable strategy for cultivating a healthier, more balanced professional life," IWG said.
