Ooredoo Oman’s cloud solutions provide support in modern, dynamic environments

The solutions utilise the cloud to enhance operational excellence, reduce costs, and improve customer experience.

Amidst a rapid pace of digital transformations in the market, emerging technologies like 5G and cloud services offer communication services providers (CSPs) an amazing opportunity to reclaim their right to play in the digital economy by moving up the value chain.

These technologies allow CSPs the opportunity to move from enabler to shaper of new customer experiences and to tap into new revenue streams across different industry verticals. In this whole value transformation, revenue monetisation is a key aspect of growth for service providers.

CSPs are currently focusing on profitability and agility improvement, supporting new operations models, and supporting new products and initiatives.

In this regard, Ooredoo Oman is in the process of digital transformation to have a Digital IT Architecture. As part of this strategy, it has decided to go with the industry standard cutting-edge technologies like cloud-native, micros services and open source-based solutions to implement a digital billing solution.

The digital billing solution is a modernised, new-age revenue monetisation platform designed to support futuristic billing and revenue management requirements. It serves as a converged platform for billing, invoicing, and payment, as well as supports traditional, multi-play, and SaaS billing models.

It also provides batch and real-time billing support with a high-performance billing engine, and manage residential business and partners via an enhanced billing operation dashboard.

Ooredoo Oman’s billing solution is built with key architecture principles aligned with cloud-native architecture principles. Amongst these principles is microservice architectures– a distinctive software development methodology which essentially decomposes an application into a set of independent services or modules where each service caters to a specific business requirement.

It also leverages low-cost and highly scalable open-source new-generation technologies like Apache Spark and Kafka and uses Cassandra and MySQL as the underlying database. Both Cassandra and MySQL have been designed for scalability whilst providing high performance, resilience, and performance.

The digital billing solution enables the faster release of services, ease of management, an interactive user interface for billing operations and monitoring, automated workflows and intelligence, amongst others.

Meanwhile, Ooredoo Oman also highlights its UNIFIED VMware Virtualisation Platform, which combines multiple elements of private cloud telco and IT workloads architectures under one common domain from a management and operations perspective. It is a fully converged ICT architecture.

Under this, the company has also deployed the Unified Private Cloud Virtualisation platform to host both IT & telecom applications for internal and external published services of Ooredoo Oman. The platform is deployed geographically between Muscat-Bawshar and Sohar sites.

Ooredoo Oman’s utilisation of cloud solutions and the success of its solutions have earned the recognition of the Middle East Technology Excellence Awards as it wins the Cloud - Telecommunications award.

The prestigious awards programme honours outstanding companies in the region that made exceptional contributions in pursuit of technological innovation in their respective industries.
