Here are Singtel's challenges of implementing 5G in Singapore

High costs and high density areas are some of the challenges.

Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) highlighted the challenges in implementing 5G in the Lion City whilst also presented opportunities in network slicing, an Ericsson Mobility Report showed.

According to the research, some of the main challenges were line-of-sight obstruction, signal attenuation from high-rise buildings, limited space, high-density areas, and rising costs from deploying 5G infrastructure in high-rise buildings.

To address this, Singtel must use sound radio planning designs and the use of available 5G spectrum bands to ensure optimal coverage and efficient handling of different use cases and traffic demands.

Network technologies like slicing, radio resource partitioning, and quality of service features are highlighted as also necessary.

One example is Singtel's network slicing in a live 5G SA network during the Singapore GP and World Cup football tournament.
