Japan's multiplay services revenue to reach $34.9b by 2028
A key driver includes the rising demand for blended services.
The total revenue from multiplay services in Japan is expected to jump from $29.6b in 2023 to $34.9b by 2028, or a compound annual growth rate of 3.3%, according to a GlobalData report.
Key drivers include the rising demand for blended services and growing number of multiplay households in the country, it added.
Average monthly household spending on multiplay service bundles is projected to increase from $53.3 in 2023 to $55.7 in 2028. This growth will primarily be fuelled by the adoption of doubleplay and tripleplay services.
In paticular, those based on fibre-optic broadband with premium features such as gigabit speeds and unlimited access to entertainment platforms like music streaming services will fuel growth, GlobalData said.
GlobalData telecom analyst Srikanth Vaidya predicts that whilst doubleplay services will remain the dominant category, their share of total multiplay households will drop from 76.7% in 2023 to 72.7% by 2028.
In contrast, tripleplay and quadplay services are expected to increase to 22.7% and 4.6%, respectively, by 2028.
The expanding broadband network coverage in Japan, especially the increasing availability of high-speed fibre-optic services, is expected to further boost multiplay package adoption.
Vaidya noted that companies like KDDI will lead the doubleplay and quadplay markets by subscription share, whilst NTT will continue to dominate the tripleplay segment through 2028.
