What brands in Vietnam need to know about the new duty-free zone

Da Nang will create a trade complex that includes a duty-free zone.

As tourist capital Da Nang develops a trade complex, brands may need to rethink their travel strategies as the government’s attitude towards duty-free in APAC changes, Euromonitor International said in its latest study.

The trade complex project, which includes duty-free zone, education centre, exhibition centre, and entertainment centre, will be finished by 2027.

“The setting up of duty-free zone will capture spending among tors through better retail experiences and wider assortments compared to airport travel retail. The success of this may inspire neighboring cities and markets to replicate the model,” read the study.

Euromonitor International encourages brands in APAC to create seamless shopping experiences, revamp airport travel retail, and increase downtown locations when focusing on domestic duty-free shopping.
