KEGCO wins at Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025
Khanom Electricity Generating Company Limited (KEGCO), a subsidiary of the EGCO group, was recognised at the Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025.
Thailand's independent power producer, KEGCO, has successfully introduced the Khanom Model, a three-pronged CSR strategy that focussed on community development, environmental conservation, and education promotion.
KEGCO was named Thailand Team of the Year - Energy at the Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025. This recognition highlights the success of its Corporate Social Responsibility team (CSR team) in implementing the “Khanom Model.”
The company aims to serve as a prototype power plant that emphasises environmental conservation and sustainable coexistence with surrounding communities. To achieve this, the “Khanom Model” was designed to enhance the community’s quality of life, promote environmental conservation and education, and align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) and ESG principles.
Under the Khanom Model, KEGCO has implemented initiatives such as revitalising Khanom sports field, establishing a community hub for health and wellness and partnering with health volunteers to encourage healthy living. These efforts have led to an annual health checkup programme for Khanom district residents, significantly raising health awareness.
The company has also released over 30 million freshwater and marine economic animals annually, boosting aquatics biodiversity, supporting local fishermen in sustaining their livelihoods, and increasing household incomes. Additionally, KEGCO has joined the Mangrove alliance to support reforestation and restore degraded mangrove forests, ensuring the conservation of the mangrove ecosystem.
Furthermore, the company has also launched a good-labour promotion in line with the King rama 9 sufficiency economy philosophy. This initiative includes sharing knowledge about organic farming, arranging the “Happy Market” for agricultural product exchange, and enhancing the community income whilst reducing expenses by consuming and trading their own goods.
KEGCO has also transformed the KN1 power plant, a retired and unique barge-based power unit, into a learning centre. This facility educates the public about electricity production and power generation whilst showcasing the lifestyle of the Khanom community. Recognising the importance of education as a foundation for a better life, the company also provides continuing scholarships to students with academic excellence.
With its focus on sustainability in strategic planning and continuous improvement projects, the company has been positioned as a leader in CSR within the power production industry.
“By engaging all employees in various activities and resource planning that align with the community’s context through stakeholder collaboration, KEGCO has earned positive recognition from both the community and other stakeholders,” said the company.
