Siam Commercial Bank scores two wins at Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025

The bank’s activities have boosted employee engagement and its net-zero goals.

Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) continues to reinforce its Digital Bank With Human Touch strategy, emphasising that employees are at the heart of driving the organisation toward becoming The Most Admired Bank. This vision reflects the concept of "Live Sustainably,"  which promotes sustainability across all dimensions—within the bank, for employees, customers, society, and the environment.

At the recently held Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025, Siam Commercial Bank secured two major wins for its projects that aim to combat climate change and to create a more balanced work and personal life. The bank’s commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture and environmental responsibility was recognised in the Thailand Team of the Year - Financial Services and Thailand Employee Engagement of the Year - Financial Services categories.

Amongst its projects is Happy 8, an employee engagement initiative by the Operations Business Unit founded on the belief that happy employees create a happy organisation. Its concept includes eight key aspects of happiness: physical and mental well-being, kindness and generosity, a positive mindset and strong values, continuous learning and development, relaxation, effective personal financial management, a warm and stable family life, and a sense of love and harmony within the community.

The project was launched in response to changing work styles during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly addressing reduced interactions between employees and supervisors. By understanding employee needs, SCB sought to make work life more fun, harmonious, and fulfilling every day.

The Happy 8 team coordinates activities across the operations departments, managing communication and engagement strategies. The initiative also integrates sustainability efforts, including recycling programmes and blood donation campaigns. The initiative led to the active engagement of approximately 1,000 employees on a monthly basis, contributing to a significant improvement in the Operations eNPS. The impact of Happy 8 is evident in SCB’s employee net promoter score (eNPS), which improved significantly. The Operations eNPS rose from -5.63 in 2022 to 33.04 in 2023, a 38.67-point increase, and continued to climb to 44 in 2024.

Meanwhile, Siam Commercial Bank also launched the Whale & Friends Project, an initiative driven by the Operations Business Unit, in response to Thailand’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Under the project, the bank focusses on converting plastic bottles into winter blankets. Employees at the head office actively participate by depositing plastic bottles at designated collection points and receiving composting fertilisers to use in their gardens. These bottles are then processed into fibres, which are woven into monk robes and winter blankets, demonstrating social responsibility, sustainability, and community participation.

The project supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and contributes to environmental conservation by reducing plastic waste. Since its launch, Whale & Friends has collected 85,785 bottles, equivalent to 1,715 kilograms of plastic. The project has yielded significant positive outcomes, such as the reduction of plastic waste sent to landfills and the cutting of greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 4.6 tonnes of CO2.

“The Whale & Friends Project has been a resounding success, demonstrating Siam Commercial Bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility. It serves as a model for other organisations seeking to implement similar initiatives and highlights the positive impact that collective efforts can have on the environment,” the company said.

Both award-winning projects highlight SCB’s emphasis on employee participation and sustainable operations. By fostering engagement within the organisation and implementing initiatives that benefit the environment and society, the bank is taking meaningful steps toward long-term success.

The Asian Management Excellence Awards honours Asia’s most successful business leaders, innovators, and organisations by celebrating excellence in key areas such as employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, and health and wellness initiatives.

Moving forward, SCB remains dedicated to "Live Sustainably," ensuring a balanced approach to business, society, and the environment. This commitment will drive sustainable growth and reinforce the bank’s role as a responsible corporate leader.
