Around 3 in 5 Malaysian e-commerce sellers optimistic for 2023

Sellers in the health and beauty category are the most optimistic.

About 63% of Malaysia sellers are “excited and positive” about the e-commerce opportunities for 2023, with eight in 10 sellers looking into increasing product discovery, consideration and purchase online, a report by Shopee showed.

In the Adapting to Malaysia's Digital Consumers in 2023 report, Shopee said sellers in the health and beauty (71%,) toys, kids and babies (69%), and fashion and lifestyle (66%) categories are the most optimistic, saying they are on the track to seize opportunities this year.

Around seven in 10 sellers are also interested to reach consumers in Borneo in 2023, led by sellers in the fast-moving consumer goods (81%), sports, entertainment & recreation (75%), groceries and pets (74%) categories.

With the increasing number of younger and more purposeful buyers this year, around 50% of the sellers want to cater to these value-based shoppers who support local goods.

The survey conducted in December 2022 involved 1,000 Malaysian marketplace sellers.
