Singapore’s nightlife to remain dead as dining in resumes

Pubs, bars and nightclubs may only resume F&B operations.

Singapore’s nightlife will remain close even as dining in will resume in food and beverage establishments starting 21 June.

The government has allowed F&B establishments for up to two persons and restaurants are required to enforce Safe Management Measures (SMM) before the resumption of dining in services.

According to the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, pivoted nightlife establishments must only conduct F&B operations and activities traditionally associated with pubs, bars, nightclubs, discotheques and karaoke lounges remain strictly prohibited.

“If SMM breaches associated with nightlife activities, such as employing hostesses, allowing live entertainment (e.g. live singing and dancing, playing of musical instruments) and games (e.g. dice and billiards) are observed, agencies reserve the right to permanently revoke offenders’ Food Shop, Public Entertainment or Liquor Licences from the first instance,” the Ministry said.

Additionally, F&B establishments are prohibited from selling or allowing the consumption of alcohol past 10.30 pm. Recorded music/sounds or screening of TV/videos are also not allowed inside the establishments.

“We are at a critical stage of our national fight against COVID-19, as we ramp up our vaccination programme. We seek everyone’s cooperation to remain vigilant, socially responsible and unwavering. If we become complacent or negligent, we could well negate all the past efforts and sacrifices we have individually and collectively made,” the ministry said.
