BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd wins at Asian Experience Awards 2026
An inclusive employee-experience strategy and a reimagined logistics-partner platform strengthened employee and partner experience.
BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd won Malaysia Employee Experience of the Year - Chemicals and Malaysia Partner Experience of the Year - Chemicals in the Asian Experience Awards 2026 for its initiative that redesigned the workplace environment across its offices and manufacturing sites, as well as the transformation of its Logistics Service Provider (LSP) engagement from a traditional Transportation & Distribution Safety (TDS) programme into a highly collaborative platform.
The company adopted an employee-experience framework designed to improve access to career development, support resources, and digital tools across different roles, locations, and individual circumstances. Operating across commercial offices in Petaling Jaya, Pasir Gudang, Kulim, Kuantan and Kemaman, the organisation addressed site-specific variations in day-to-day work experiences.
To standardise onboarding, the organisation adopted a digital system that guides new hires from offer acceptance through their initial integration. Digital platforms provide self-paced learning resources, whilst built-in accessibility features such as live captioning and translation tools support varied worker requirements.
The company created a self-directed career environment through internal talent platforms, mentoring frameworks, and structured evaluation tools. Employees use these systems to seek new project roles, connect with advisers, and build professional skills independently. Worksite mobility data showed that the internal fill rate for permanent vacancies rose from 44% in 2024 to 49% in 2025. Existing staff members also secured up to 50% of vacant managerial roles.
Internal community groups and dedicated women’s networks foster cross-departmental collaboration outside daily operations. Staff members access confidential mental health support and coaching tools through digital wellbeing applications. In addition, an internal recognition platform allows colleagues to acknowledge contributions across different business functions.
Meanwhile, BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd formalised its TDS programme in 2018, focusing on compliance, safe handling practices, and risk management throughout the logistics chain. After a brief pause from 2020 to 2021 due to the pandemic, BASF resumed the programme in 2022 and has continued to organise it annually through 2025. Over time, BASF saw an opportunity to deepen relationships with logistics partners and move beyond a traditional customer-vendor dynamic.
BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd sought to engage logistics providers as strategic partners rather than solely as vendors, gradually evolving the programme from a safety-focused engagement into the collaborative LSP Day platform. Each year, BASF brings together logistics providers, regulators, industry bodies, emergency response agencies, port authorities, and BASF subject matter experts to discuss topics that directly impact the logistics community.
It serves as a collaborative forum where partners contribute ideas, share innovations, discuss regulatory developments, showcase sustainability initiatives, and collectively identify solutions to industry-wide challenges. BASF acts as a convener and facilitator, creating opportunities for partners to learn not only from BASF but also from each other.
